Why does it take so many years to carry out the death penalty?

it's because of the system. the system is broke and no one is trying to fix it. a lot of it boils down to greed.they(judges and lawyers) make there money off the hearings and appeals and the longer they drag it out the more they get.the justice system needs a huge overhaul but unfortunately this won't happen in our lifetimes.
