New Shoes hurting achilles!?

It turns out that it was a poorly designed shoe that has all of the fabric seams stictched directly into where your achilles would rub against the back -- it digs into my achilles whenever I walk, regardless of sock height.. I was thinking about just putting a clear piece of tape over it, but was wondering if there was any other more permanent alternatives?
