Why where the 60's antai war moment so against the Vietnam war?

In my opinion, there was a fine line between the usual liberal mentality against war and genuine concerns regarding not sacrificing our own young for questionable causes, or not allowing for an all-volunteer system under such cirstances. Many or most people didn't know "what we were fighting for" and there was a song to that effect.
